Sutton / North Hatley Captures 2018 ARCE Golf Tournament

June 10, 2018

LENNOXVILLE, 10 June 2018 - Congratulations to the Sutton/North Hatley foursome of Marty Rourke, Andrew Hatch, Steve McPherson and Vinny Lengacher (-11) who captured the 2018 edition of the Estrie Curling Club Golf Tournament. The winners were tied with the Celanese foursome of Michel Huppé, Anne Hardy, Daniel Provencher and Diane Roy (-11) and retrogression was used to break the tie. The Bedford foursome of Roger Gobeille, Jean Charlebois, Jacques pelletier and Gaétan Allard (-9) were third place winners.

 

The tournament was a huge success with a total of 28 foursomes competing under sunny skies on the Old Lennoxville Golf Club course.

 

Having won the 2018 title, Sutton/North Hatley will host the 2019 edition. Details will be provided during the 2018-2019 curling season.

Laurier Curling Club's Bernier Captures Danville Sportsman

April 21, 2018

DANVILLE, 21 April 2018 - Laurier Curling Club's Germain Bernier (Yvon Laplante, Francis Mercier and Christian Roy) captured the 2018 Danville Sportsman this past Saturday defeating Trois-Rivières' Marcel Marchand (Normand Bornais, Richard Lavergne and Greg Bornais).

 

The B Section final saw Mathieu Drapeau (Yanick Lefebvre, Hugo Chapdelaine and Michel Boisvert) of Celanese defeat Thetford's Guy Doyo (Joel Pouliot, Jacques Sylvain and Guillaume Turgeon).

Meanwhile in the C Section, Matt McCrea (Ethan Liebrecht, J-P Tremblay and Jason Brock) of Sherbrooke and Danville defeated Danville's Terry Patterson (Richard Webb, Jason Bowering and Alex Major).

Border / North Hatley Team Takes North Hatley Mixed Title

NORTH HATLEY, 8 April 2018 – Border and North Hatley curlers (Team Leclerc) joined forces to win the 2018 North Hatley Spring Mixed Bonspiel defeating Danville (Suitor) in the championship final and the Mécanique P. Fletcher Trophy.

Lennoxville and Thetford Win Lennoxville Men's and Seniors

LENNOXVILLE – A week of curling came to an end this past Saturday evening with Lennoxville Curling Club's teenage sensation, Greg Cheal, overcoming a strong Sherbrooke foursome skipped by André Garceau in an exciting final match to win the 86th anniversary of the John Nichol Trophy. Playing with Greg Cheal were Spencer Richmond, Hayden Richmond and Todd Rivett. The runners-up in this bracket were André Garceau, Michael Daigle, Patrice Baril and Martin Arsenault.

 

In the middle event, sponsored by the family of Bill Smith, Matt McCrea's Danville four outlasted a determined Lennoxville squad skip by Marc Richard to take the Smith Trophy. The rest of Matt's team included Ethan Leibrecht, Chris Lodge and J.P. Tremblay. The rest of Marc Richard's team included Ghyslain Richard, Simon Collin and Robert Léveillé.

 

The Mooney Trophy for the third event was taken by a team from Otterburn Curling Club consisting of Bruce Derry, Steve Upton, Rob Derry and Marc Auclair. The Derry rink defeated a group from Danville skipped by Richard Webb and included Terry Patterson, Jason Bowering and Alex Major.

 

Running concurrently with the three Men's brackets were two Senior Men's brackets. The main event trophy, The Global Excel Trophy, was won by Ritchie Harnish of Thetford Curling Club. His team consisted of Normand Gagnon, Michel Labbé and Claude Nadeau. The Harnish foursome defeated a Sherbrooke rink of Pierre Corbeil, Richard Pinette, Gaston Guilmette and Daniel Ayotte. The consolation event, The Clarke & Sons Trophy, was taken by Yvan Labrecque, Jeff Bromby, Jean-Paul Brillon and André Jean who defeated the Lennoxville's  Rollie Dionne foursome of Jeff Bailes, Denis Singher and Michel Bérard.

Meggie Leclerc Wins Jean-Guy Blanchard Memorial

SHERBROOKE, 5 mars 2018 – La formation du capitaine Meggie Leclerc du Club de curling Border situé à Stanstead a remporté les honneurs de la grande finale de l’Invitation Jean-Guy Blanchard mémorial qui s’est déroulée dimanche au Club de curling de Sherbrooke.

 

En finale de la classe A, Leclerc a vaincu à l’arraché le quatuor mené par Jocelyn Grenier (Club de curling de Sherbrooke) au compte de 6 à 4. Menant par un point au 8e et dernier bout, le troisième tireur de Border Ghyslain Richard a réussi une sortie montée qui a empêché l’adversaire d’égaler le pointage. Daniel Cambor et Andrew Phaneuf complétaient le quatuor de l’équipe gagnante.

 

En finale du B, la troupe de Dominique Gilbert (Club de curling de Sherbrooke) a vaincu celle de Rémi Verville (Club de curling de Sherbrooke & de North Hatley), tandis qu’André Garceau (Club de curling de Sherbrooke) a fait de même dans la classe C battant l’équipe de Bruno Sonier (Club de curling de Sherbrooke).

 

« On est très heureux du déroulement du tournoi, a mentionné le coordonnateur de l’événement Jean-Philippe Tremblay. L’édition 2018 de l’Invitation Jean-Guy Blanchard mémorial a été à nouveau un franc succès avec la participation de 24 équipes provenant de 12 clubs de curling différents de la province. On a assisté à de l’excellent curling durant la semaine de compétition. »

Sherbrooke's Team Gaudreault captures the Magog Women's Bonspiel

MAGOG QC - Congratulations to Team Gaudreault of Sherbrooke who were the champions of the 2018 Magog Women's Bonspiel that ended Saturday, January 10. Louise Gaudreault, 3rd Nicole Verville, 2nd Céline Asselin and lead Louise Beaudoin defeated Magog's Mélissa Bowers in the A section final.

An All-Sherbrooke Final at the Border CANUSA

STANSTEAD QC - It was an all-Sherbrooke final at the 2018 edition of the CANUSA Open Bonspiel at the Border Curling Club this past weekend. The Sherbrooke team of Guy Alarie, 3rd Ann Sophie Langevin, 2nd Gilles Bilodeau and lead Céline Mercier (Odette Belle-Isle) defeated Sherbrooke's Yvan Verville, 3rd Nicole Verville, Robert Fortier and Louise Gaudreault to capture the A section title.

Gosselin Wins the Sherbrooke Women's Bonspiel for the 2nd Consecutive Year

SHERBROOKE QC - Congratulations to the Champions of the 2018 Sherbrooke Women's Curling Bonspiel that took place last week and finished on Sunday, January 28. Team Gosselin won the overall title for the second consecutive year. The winning team was comprised of skip Brigitte Gosselin (Sherbrooke), 3rd Chantal Ouellet (Magog), 2nd Suzanne Godin (Trois-Rivières) et lead Pierrette Houle (Laurier). In the A section final Gosselin defeated Laval-sur-le-lac's France Prévost.

Family Affair at the Lennoxville Modified Mixed

LENNOXVILLE QC - It was a family affair at the Lennoxville Mixed as the A event final was captured by the Lennoxville/North Hatley team of skip Marty Rourke, 3rd Josée Rourke, 2nd Allison Kavanagh and lead Bill Rourke. Rourke defeated Lennoxville's Greg Cheal (Todd Rivett, Lauren Cheal, Meaghan Côté and Lea Andrews) to win the Cass Trophy. Meanwhile, in the Connelly Memorial Trophy B section the team of Jeff Cheal (Jarrad Sherman, Sandra Edwards and Jesse Sutherland) of Lennoxville beat Border's Paul Bosco (Liz Bosco, Larry Landes, Gail Lynch and Pat Vana).

Laurier Defeats Celanese in Magog Senior Final

MAGOG QC - Victoriaville (back row) defeated Drummondville in the finals to win the A section of the Magog Senior.  A Champions (Laurier CC) : Pierre Laforce (skip), Raymond Deschênes (3rd), Jean-Pierre Pelletier (2nd) and Pierre Laroche (Lead). A Finalist (Celanese CC) : Denis Mailhot (skip), Alain Boudreau (3rd), Gerry Giguère (2nd) et Gaétan Prince (Lead).

MacPherson Guides Local Team to Sutton Skins Title

SUTTON QC - Steve MacPherson lead his team of Marty Rourke, Andrew Hatch and Vincent Lengacher to the Sutton Skins title this past weekend. In the A Final MacPherson's Sutton team defeated Sherbrooke's Dominique Gilbert, Donald Boivin, P.E. Madore and Guy Carignan to win the overall title. On the B side of the draw, Daniel Lague (Jean Charlebois, Anne-Marie Marceau et Roger Gobeille) of Bedford defeated Border Curling Club's Kelly Conn (Claude D'Aragon, Gary Coburn et Gilles Grenier).

Two Local Teams Take Gold in the Circuit Juvenile

LENNOXVILLE QC - The fourth Juvenile Circuit tournament of the season was played late last week at the Lennoxville and North Hatley Curling Clubs. Congratulations to the 16 participating teams and thank you to both clubs for their collaboration during this tournament. Two local teams came away with gold, Team Cheal and Team Legler.

Magog and Sherbrooke Dominate Sherbrooke Senior Finals

SHERBROOKE QC - Magog teams dominated at the Sherbrooke Senior Open last week taking both the A and B event finals. In the A Section, Gilles Lamoureux's Magog foursome (Paul-André Grenier, Gilles Roy and Barry Redmond) defeated Sherbrooke's Michel Lettre (Sylvain Coulombe, Gilles Lord and Gilles Boutin) while in the B Section, Magog's Yvan Lavoie (Luc Charbonneau, Isabelle Potvin and Raymond Allard) outscored Sherbrooke's Denis Lemay Richard Pinette, Roger Arguin and Robert Weldon). The Sherbrooke Senior was once again a popular stop for seniors from across the region with 32 teams competing for the top prize. Congratulations to the tournament organizer, Michel Lettre and his group of volunteers.

O'Neil Triumphant at Border Senior Open

STANSTEAD QC - Bernard O'Neil's foursome are the A-Event Champions of the 2017 Border Senior Open bonspiel in Stanstead. Team O'Neil defeated Border's Claude D'Aragon while in the B-Event final Lennoxville's Rollie Dionne bested Sherbrooke's Denis Blais.

Sherbrooke Dominates First Stop of the Circuit Colts

SHERBROOKE QC - It was in a good spirit and healthy competition that the fourth edition of the Circuit Colts bonspiel at the Sherbrooke Curling Club took place last weekend. Ten teams competed for prizes and provincial circuit points in this category for curlers with less than 5 years experience.

 

André Garceau's Sherbrooke team (Mikaël Daigle, Patrick Baril and Marie-Pier Lequin) won the A section for the third consecutive year defeating fellow Sherbrooke member Marc Tardif (Jean-Claude Meilleur, Michaël Pelletier and Alexandre D'Amboise).

 

The match was hotly contested and Garceau's troupe finally secured the victory in the eighth end. The detailed results and photos of the tournaments are available on the Invitational Tournament's page ("Member" section). The next tournament will take place in 2 weeks at the Lachine Curling Club. Follow our teams and encourage them!

All-Sherbrooke Final at Lennoxville Sticks & Stones

November 10, 2017

LENNOXVILLE QC - Two Sherbrooke teams battled for the title at the 2017 Lennoxville Sticks & Stones this past week. The team of Gilles Bilodeau along with teammates Guy Alarie, Céline Mercier and Germain Bélisle defeated club mates André Béliveau (Skip), Jean-Guy Lizotte, Yves Rancourt and Jean-Guy Papillon. In the B Final, Lennoxville's Chuck Davies (Skip) secured victory after making a spectacular raise takeout on his final shot.

MAGOG QC - The first edition of the Magog Mixed Doubles Bonspiel concluded on Friday, November 3 in Magog with the home team of Jeanne-Mance Lemay and Jacques L'Écuyer taking away top honours. The champions defeated the Magog duo of Gilles Crête and Claude Bernier in the A event final while the team of Gail Grier and Denis Lecours (Magog) defeated Marc Legault and Francine Roy-Beauregard (Magog) to take the B event title.

VICTORIAVILLE QC - The second edition of the Laurier Masters Open concluded on Friday, October 27 in Victoriaville with Laurier team skipped by Yvon Laplante being crowned Champions for the second straight year. Laplante defeated the Thetford foursome of Ritchie Harnish in the A event final while the team of Pierre Laforce (Celanese) defeated Pierre Corbeil (Sherbrooke) to take the B event title. The second edition of the Laurier Masters Open was a huge success with 32 teams competing over the five-day event that was the opening bonspiel on the Estrie Regional Curling Association 2017-2018 calendar.

MONT-ROYAL, QC - At Curling Québec's Annual General Assembly, the federation's Board of Director's announced the winners of their 2017 Méritas Awards. The Estrie Regional Curling Association wishes to congratulate the region's three (3) Méritas Award winners:

 

Denis Couture (Danville) - Ice Technician of the Year

Benoît Perreault (Laurier) - Club Coach of the Year

Germain Tremblay (Magog) - Competition Coach of the Year

MONTRÉAL QC - Curling Québec has announced that Sherbrooke and Magog Curling clubs will be hosting the 2018 Master's Men's and Women's Provincial Curling Championships scheduled for March 5-12, 2018. The Men's Championship will take place at the Sherbrooke Curling Club while the Master's Women's will he hosted at the Magog Curling Club.

MONTREAL WEST - Congratulations to the Marc Richard (Lennoxville) senior team and the Jean Langevin (Sherbrooke) mixed team for their bronze medals won at the 2017 Caledonia Cup. Over 225 players from 56 participating teams registered in one of the 4 events presented : Royal Victoria Jubilee (Men), Lady Gilmour (Mixed), Lassie (Women) and St-Maurice (Senior).

 

Montreal-West, Baie d’Urfé & TMR curling clubs hosted this year's edition.

Estrie Wins 2017 Travelers Provincial Men's Curling Championship

HUDSON QC, April 9, 2017 - Congratulations to the Travelers Provincial Men's champions - Benoit Giguère, Christian Bilodeau, Jean-François Lamontagne and Emmanuel Lavigne (skip) representing the Estrie's Laurier Curling Club in Victoriaville. The Estrie men's team did not suffer a defeat throughout the championship and defeated Trois-Rivières 5-3 in the championship final. The team will now represent Quebec at the 2017 Travelers Canadian Curling Championship November 20-25, 2017 at the Cataraqui Curling Club in Kingston, Ontario.
